Remembering Ted Etheridge

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ted Etheridge.  Ted was the longest tenured North Seattle Baseball and Softball Board Member as well as league historian, coach, commissioner, advocate, and all-around giving person.  Our league would not be where it is today without all of Ted’s efforts, many of which were behind the scenes.  To give you a sense of his dedication, Ted did not have any children or relatives that played in the league, yet was the most dedicated supporter of NSBSA over his years of service.

For more than a decade, not a single game or field practice happened without his involvement, baseball and softball, at all levels, T-Ball though 18U Rainiers.  Ted was our liaison with the Seattle Parks Department as well as to our governing body, PONY.  He organized, managed, and ran all the 13 YO and older (non-Rainiers) teams. He even traveled to California when some of our teams went there for the Pony World series regional playoffs.

Ted was very well known across youth baseball programs throughout Washington. His passion was baseball (he would often show up at games all over the Puget Sound to see how our teams were doing), but within that, his mission was to get and keep as many youth playing as long as possible.  Without him we would not have our Cascade, Pony, Colt, and Palomino divisions (the PONY teams for players older than 13).  Ted had multiple stories of kids who kept playing through these programs and went on to tremendous success for their high school teams and beyond.  He was also the driving force behind our Superbash tournament, held annually during Memorial Day weekend.

Many of you knew Ted, others may have heard his name, some may not have known of him, but do know this, we all lost a great person.  Ted was famous for his detailed historical references, and we all wish we had the opportunity and fortune to hear more of them.

Ted – Thank You for your endless support for NSBSA, you will be missed.
